Raising funds for the Alzheimer's Association became our family's passion when my grandmother was diagnosed with the disease. This strong woman who raised 8 children, had 30+ grandchildren and was a breast cancer survior was being taken from us by this terrible disease. We watched helpless as we saw her go from someone who occasionally lost her keys to not being able to feed herself. As a family we decided that while we couldn't stop what was happening to her, we could most certainly help find research to cure this disease so future generations wouldn't have to battle this.
We formed a memory walk team called "Shirley's Helpers" and have walked for the last 5 years. Our team has raised over $5000 in those 5 years and we plan on continuing to walk and help spread awarness for years to come. For the Spring/Summer 2013 catalog Scenty's Charitable cause warmer "Forget-Me-Not" will help fund the research needed to find a cure once and for all. The net proceeds of each of these warmers sold will be donated to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation.
